Jack Heap has added experience with the capture of Irfan Quayyum (Morecambe CC), Noor Elahi (Carnforth CC) Faizan Khan and Uzair Shah (Both Lancaster CC).

Irfan has played 110 Palace Shield games over with Morecambe CC (2024) and Lancaster CC (2020-2023) previously, picking up his career best 5/16 bowling figures last season. He can also bat scoring two PS 50’s plus a knock of 102 for Lancaster CC in 2021.

Noor joins from Carnforth CC having played 69 PS games for Carnforth and Lancaster previously. Strong with the bat Noor hit a double hundred for Lancaster 2’s in 2023, other top scores include 183, 114 and 96 (in a T20). He can also bowl with a PS best of 5/25 in 2022.

Batsman Faizan joins from Lancaster CC having played 162 NPL and PS games for Lancaster CC and Morecambe CC over the past 9 seasons. Faizan averages 21.6 and hit his top score of 153 not out in 2022 for Lancaster 2s. In 2021 he hit his first PS ton with a knock of 104 off just 45 balls! (8x 4’s & 8x 6’s).

Medium-fast bowler Uzair also joins from Lancaster CC. Uzair has bowled over 430 overs in the league taking 92 wickets with best figures of 6/7 at an average of 16.74.

On behalf of the Torrisholme Cricket Club, I am honoured to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mark Drinkall on his appointment as our new President. This esteemed position follows the deeply felt loss of our beloved John Day MBE last year.

Mark's dedication to our club for over four decades has been nothing short of remarkable. His tireless efforts in organising coaching and promoting junior cricket have been truly phenomenal, nurturing the next generation of cricketers and fostering a vibrant community spirit within the club. Mark's versatile involvement, fulfilling nearly every role, except wicketkeeper and the position of treasurer, speaks volumes of his unwavering commitment and passion.

As we move forward, we are confident that under Mark's leadership, Torrisholme Cricket Club will continue to flourish and honour the legacy of those who have paved the way. Congratulations, Mark, and thank you for your steadfast dedication.

South African Sam Signs!

South African Sam Signs!

Torrisholme CC are excited to announce the signing of South African, Wicket Keeper Batsman, Samuel Brown as our Overseas Amateur for the 2025 Season.

Sam is a fluent right handed top order batsman and impressive gloveman, he has been in and around the KwaZulu-Natal set up for a number of years, representing them at various age group levels he joined the KwaZulu-Natal Tuskers Academy in November.

Sam, is 20 years old but is no stranger to the UK having spent last summer with Whickham Cricket Club in their Northumberland & Tyneside Division One campaign.

Sam contributed both on and off the field for Whickham, he racked up 607 runs at an average of 26.17, including two half-centuries (51 & 69) and a century (106, off 116 balls v Alnwick CC). Behind the stumps he also claimed 16 victims over the course of the 2024 UK season.

Sam is also a qualified level 1, coach as is keen to volunteer at the club.

Sam said about the move "I'm really looking forward to joining up with Torrisholme CC for the 2025 season, I had a great time last year up in the North East and now want to explore more of the UK. With the great rail links, and after speaking with “Heapy” Torrisholme seemed a great option to me. I'm really looking forward to meeting the rest of the squad and get involved with all aspects of the club, I have coaching qualifications and want to get be involved as much as possible".

Winter Nets 2025

As last year, our Indoor Winter Net sessions have now been booked at Carnforth High, Sports Hall, LA5 9LS. There is ample parking on site, with the sports hall accessed via a path from the car park.

Senior Nets
In a change this year, to help increase numbers, we are moving senior nets to Friday nights, with a couple on Monday nights (due to availability). Please make a note of the following dates and times...

Senior 2025 Winter Net Sessions:
Friday 10th January, 6-7pm,
Friday 17th January, 6-7pm,
Friday 24th January, 6-7pm
Friday 21st February, 6-7pm
Monday 10th March, 7.30-8.30pm
Monday 17th March, 7.30-8.30pm
Friday 21st March, 6-7pm
Friday 28th March, 6-7pm

These sessions are open to all senior and potential senior players, plus older juniors currently in school Year 10 and above. There is no need to book. Sessions are £5 per player, per session (payable on each night. Cash or card payment will be accepted). However, if you'd like to reserve your place and pay for all 8 sessions (4x 2 hour, 4x 1 hour) in advance then you can, at a reduced cost of £35 (1 week free!).

Junior Nets

Will remain on Sunday nights and we have managed to secure a much better time slot. Therefore Juniors will be on at 6pm to 7pm on the following Sundays: 2nd March, 9th March, 16th March and 23rd March .

These sessions are for boys who are currently in School Year 4 to Year 9 or girls in School Year 6 to Year 13 . These are coached hard ball nets , if you are unsure if your child is capable of playing hardball, please speak to one of our coaches. If your child has their own bat and protective kit (helmet/pads/gloves) please bring it along. For those without their own protective kit, the club will have a very limited amount to borrow. We do advise each boy to have their own ‘box’. Girls do not need a box, however female cricket abdo guards can be purchased from various online outlets.

All juniors, at a minimum, must bring their own bat and hard ball along to each net session. Younger juniors boys and girls (Year 4 to Year 8) should have a 4.75oz hard cricket ball (colts ball). Boys in Year 9 should now have a senior hard ball (5.5oz). Girls in Year 9 - 13 should have a 5oz women’s ball.

Any juniors in Year 9 who have represented the club in senior fixtures last season, will be expected to attend senior nets, not junior nets.

Cost is £32 per child for 4x coached sessions, payable in advance on the link below.

Please note: It is important that your child attends all sessions, if they cannot attend at least three please don't take a place in Junior nets from someone who can. These sessions are only open to juniors committed to Torrisholme CC for the 2025 season. The sessions are extremely popular and sell out fast. Bookings are on a first come, first served basis with a maximum of around 36 junior places available. In the event of over-subscription and your child missing out on a place, a full refund will be given.

John Day MBE

John Day MBE

It was with great sadness that we at Torrisholme Cricket Club heard of the passing of our long time President and ardent supporter John Day MBE and we offer our sincere condolences to his daughter Alison, his son Peter and their families.

John became involved at the club at the time John Ball re-started the Junior

Section, his two grandsons, Ryan and Kieran, were playing and he became

President shortly afterwards. He retained the post with great pride for the rest of

his life regularly attending home games where he would join the group of older

supporters and former players known as ‘The Lads’ to watch the game, chat and

enjoy a leisurely tea. Over the last few years his visits have been fewer due to

his ill health but his interest in the club never waned and he was always keen to

welcome you to his home or have a catch up on the phone to hear about how the

club was doing.

John was awarded his MBE for his Services to the Community, he was a city

councillor for over twenty years, Mayor of Lancaster from 2004 to 2005 and ran

Beaufort Road Post Office for 24 years. Alongside his interest in the cricket club

John was an ardent and long-standing fan of Morecambe FC and a regular at

Torrisholme Methodist Church. He will long be remembered as a gentle, witty,

positive and supportive man who cared deeply about his family and his

community.

RIP Mr President you will be missed.

TCC Golf Day 2024

We are bringing back the TCC golf day in 2024!

Four-ball groups. A meal is included in the entrance fee for all players. The meal will be served roughly around 5pm until all teams are in.

A presentation will take place once all the players have finished eating.

Prizes will be awarded to the top scoring 3 teams and there will be awards for longest drive and nearest the pin.

We are once again looking for match ball sponsors for the forthcoming 2024 season.

Last season we spent over £1,700 on match balls across our senior sides and any sponsorship we can get in goes a long way to covering this cost.

Kiwi Connor Signs!

KIWI CONNOR SIGNS...

Torrisholme Cricket Club are delighted to announce the exciting news that New Zealand paceman Connor Hooper will be joining the club for the 2024 season as our overseas amateur.

Connor is a medium/fast right-arm bowler who currently plays for Morrinsville-Piako Cricket Club in the Waikato Valley, Hamilton and Counties Men's Competition.

Connor has currently taken 23 wickets in New Zealand this term at a respectable average of 25.62 including figures of 4-63 against the top ranked Hamilton club Hamilton Old Boys' and 3-30 in the Waikato Valley Premier Men's One-day final.

"Hoopsie" has also played for the Taradale Cricket Club in the Hawke's Bay Premier Men's competition and made his debut at the age of 16 and was one of the youngest and quickest bowlers in the competition winning the bowler of the year award in that year, taking the scalps of first-class players Christian Leopard, Joey Field and Will Clark (all three having represented New Zealand at Under 19 Level)

Connor said “I'm really looking forward to joining Torrisholme CC. I have never been or played cricket in the UK before, so I'm really excited about a new challenge and an opportunity to test myself and play with a bunch of new lads. I've also heard about the seam friendly bowling conditions that come that side of the World, which will hopefully help showcase my skillset. I will give everything to help bring home some wins for the team. I can't wait to get started!"

Karl Hansson (Director of Cricket at TCC) said “It is fantastic to be able to bring Connor to the club, especially after the success of Matt Cline (Australian OA in 2022 & 2023) who joined in a similar way. Cooky, Heapy and I have been chatting to Connor frequently on social media over the last few weeks and I really think he'll be a great fit for the club and I look forward to meeting him in person in April"

Junior Presentation Evening

The 2023 Junior Presentation Night was very well attended and we were blessed with a lovely night.

The event started with the inauguration of a handsome bell and plaque in memory of much missed club umpire Malcolm Porter , his son Ashley and family were present to ring the bell in Malc's memory and a moving moment was witnessed by well over a hundred players, parents and coaches.

Once again Aussie overseas Matt Cline was guest of honour, Matt is returning to Australia after the season and, unfortunately, he doesn't plan to return next year. He has become a friend to many at the club as well as being a wonderful player, we all wish him the very best for his future life and cricket back down under.

Virtually all the prize winners were present at the event and the league winning Under 11 Hardball squad received their trophy from Matt.

The Junior Clubman of the Year, or Lockwood Trophy as it is known, was once again awarded to long serving coach and player Sean McGuigan .

Thanks to all who supported the junior section through another busy Summer, to groundsman Eddy Bayton for preparing all those wickets and to the bar team who kept us 'hydrated' through the season.

Spring Cricket Camp

Torrisholme Cricket Club are excited to announce we will be running a two day cricket camp during May half term on both Tuesday 30th May and Wednesday 31st May at the club.

The days will consist of coaching from first team captain Joseph Wills, first team T20 captain Jack Heap and our Australian Overseas Amateur Matt Cline.

On both days the sessions will run from 10am-4pm. You will need to provide your child with a packed lunch each day .

The sessions are open to boys and girls aged 8-16. There will be groups playing both softball and hardball cricket with opportunity to work with specialist batter Joseph, spin bowler Jack and pace bowler Matt. Places are limited (20 per day) so please don’t miss out on this great opportunity to improve your cricket skills.

For this amazing experience the cost is just £30 per person, per day, with profits going towards club funds. Parents/Guardians are welcome to watch the sessions, but children can be left as supervised by DBS staff. In the event of bad weather, indoor sessions will be planned.

Aussie Cline Signs...Again!

Torrisholme Cricket Club are delighted to announce the exciting news that Australian paceman Matthew Cline will be joining the club once again for the 2023 season as our overseas amateur.

Matt, now 25, had a fantastic season for us last year, taking 38 wickets at an average of 20.34. He also scored important runs with the bat, a 65 at Penwortham CC, from just 30 balls being the highlight. He is much-loved around the club and was voted our 1st XI player of the year in 2022. Everyone at the club are delighted that he has agreed to come and spend the 2023 summer with us once again.

Matt is a medium/fast right-hand bowler who plays for Numurkah Youth Cricket Club based in Victoria (140 miles north of Melbourne). Numurkah’s season is coming to a close and Matt has continued to take wickets out in Australia, averaging of 18.70. Jacko signs as head coach

Torrisholme Cricket Club can today announce the appointment of former 1st XI captain Matt Jackson as the club Head Coach.

Matt will take up the role, working with our senior and junior squads from April 2023

Returning to the club having left at the conclusion of the 2017 season, Matty is the Club’s leading wicket taker with 512 wickets across 285 games.

Matt will continue to play for Netherfield in the Northern Premier League, having taken 160 wickets in 109 games since joining in 2018.

“This is a tremendous appointment for the club. Matt will shape and lead all senior practice sessions. There will also be a particular focus on the Sunday 1st XI, who finished 4th in the Palace Shield Sunday Division 1 last season.

This team has brought Torrisholme so much development and success in recent years and has been instrumental in lowering the average age of our Saturday 1st XI down from 42 to 22!

Senior Winter Nets

Running 6pm - 8pm (2 hours) on the following Sundays: 5 February, 12 February, 19 February
& 26 February, then 7pm - 8pm (1 hour) on the junior nights (below)

These sessions are open to all senior and potential senior players, plus older juniors currently in school Year 10 and above.

We also welcome any new players who maybe keen to join our senior set up. All Senior and junior net sessions are held in the LRGS Sports hall. We are again running 4 senior sides this season, 1st XI & 2nd XI with Saturday fixtures and two sides playing on Sundays, including a development side.

There is no need to book. Sessions are £4 per player, per session (payable on each night. Cash or card payment will be accepted).

However, if you'd like to reserve your place and pay for all 8 sessions (4x 2 hour, 4x 1 hour) in advance then you can, at a reduced cost of £28 HERE , or you can pay for each session individually using this LINK in advance, or on the night.

Westmorland Junior League U11 Hardball Champions 2022

A fantastic season for our Under 11's Hard Ball side was completed in late September as the players were awarded with their prizes and the Championship Trophy. The side also reached the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup, eventually beaten by a strong Wavertree CC side in the end.

Huge congratulations to Malli and the squad. The clubs first ever hardball trophy at this age group!

First Eleven Captain to stand-down

Torrisholme CC 1st XI skipper Bryson Little has decided to stand down from the role for the remainder of the 2022 season.

There are a few factors around this decision, but the main reason being that we should now have plenty of competition for senior sides with 5+ LRGS lads becoming available from the 9th July. Plus from this weekend we will have Joel Stewart available as he returns home from University.

Bryson now feels the time is right to step back, as at 50 years old he doesn’t want to take up a space in first eleven from one of our talented younger players.

Bryson has started stepping back this season already, having made himself unavailable for our T20 games in 2022, as he recognises the long term future of the 1st XI would involve a younger captain.

The club thanks Bryson for all his hard work and organisation of the first eleven over the last few seasons, which culminated in the Division 1A title last year plus the work involved with bringing
Matt Cline in from Australia. The club hopes that Bryson will stay on in some capacity with the club and help to develop our even younger players.

UPDATE: Following a players meeting on Wednesday 29th June 2022, it was unanimously decided that Joseph Wills will be TCC 1st XI captain for the rest of the season.

Torrisholme Cricket Club are delighted to announce the addition of four more players for 2022, in additional to our new overseas amateur Matt Cline.

Saeed Bariwala

TCC have added batting and off-spin bowling experience with former Preston CC and Kendal CC star Saeed Bariwala. Saeed has played over 353 games (since Play-Cricket records began!) scoring 6379 runs in that time with a high score of 169 not out. He has scored 30x 50’s and 2x 100’s in his ‘P-C career’ at an average of 20.00. He joins with good memories of Boundary Meadow! In 2018 he scored an excellent 103 for Kendal CC (off just 108 balls) against TCC and in the same year lifted the Meyler Cup with Kendal when they beat Croston in the final, which was held at TCC.
Saeed was Preston CC’s pro in 2011 where he joined from Skegness CC. He has represented Lincolnshire CCC in his youth and Palace Shield Representative Sides during an outstanding career to date. Welcome Saeed!

Mark Woodhead

More batting experience has arrived in the form of former Morecambe CC legend Mark Woodhead. Mark brings a wealth of Northern League experience, having won the title 4 times with Morecambe CC, the most recent in 2015. Mark has scored over 10,000 league runs in the Northern League and Palace Shield with a career high of 129 not out (v Lancaster). In that time he has faced the bowling of West Indian Malcolm Marshall (Leyland) and South African Jacques Kallis (Netherfield). Welcome Mark!

Freddie Whatmuff

17 year old all-rounder Freddie joins from neighbours Westgate CC. Freddie has been impressive at all levels of junior cricket and represented senior sides for both Heysham and Westgate in the Westmorland League. He has captained the ‘A Team’ in each of his year groups' at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and continues to represent LRGS in their 1st XI. He was a member of the school team which toured to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in February 2020 and is set to go on the next school tour in February. Freddie is an excellent spin blower and opening batsman. Last Season Freddie impressed playing 35 games...

MALCOLM PORTER

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Malcolm Porter, long standing club umpire and supporter of Torrisholme Cricket Club on Saturday 12th March 2022.

Malcolm supported the club for over 15 years and was notably our club umpire during both the 2014 and 2019 seasons, where the 2nd XI saw promotion from Divisions 4 & 3 respectively.

He will be remembered by all that played for Torrisholme Cricket Club for his kind and caring nature and love for both cricket and football. He was awarded with his Gold Cap in the 2019 season, owing to his commitment and passion for the
club over many years.

Outside of cricket , Malcolm was involved with Morecambe Ladies FC and Galgate FC for many years , volunteered on the ground staff at Morecambe FC and also worked for many years at Lancaster & Morecambe College.

He loved his two sons, his two daughters and his grandchildren and was a dedicated family man.

He also had a love for rock music, of which many club members will have attended gigs with him previously.

Our players will be wearing black armbands out of respect for our first fixtures of the season

against Euxton and Penwortham as a tribute to Malcolm.

We are currently looking into ways of honouring Malcolm at the club.

Funeral details:
Malcolm's funeral will take place on Monday 28th March at 12.30pm. To be held at Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium, followed by a gathering at TCC. Those from the club or the wider cricket family, that are planning to attend are asked to email Mark Drinkall drinks@torrisholmecc.co.uk to assist with catering numbers.
The family have asked that people make donations to TCC instead of flowers and the dress code is 'whatever you feel comfortable in'.

AUSSIE CLINE SIGNS!

Torrisholme Cricket Club are delighted to announce the exciting news that Australian bowler Matthew Cline will be joining the club for the 2022 season as our overseas amateur.

Matt, 24, is a medium/fast right hand bowler who plays for Numurkah Youth Cricket Club based in Victoria (around 140 miles north of Melbourne). It is hoped that through this brilliant opportunity TCC can build further amateur cricket links in Australia - as we did with Russell’s Creek CC back in late 2019.

The pandemic putting pay to a deal which had hoped to bring Matt Petherick to TCC in 2020-21. This sadly fell through with International travel bans in place at the time. However, it is hoped this new link could enable another pathway for some of our own talented players (especially in the 21-30 age category) with the opportunity to play amateur cricket in Australia in the future.

Out in Australia, “Cliney” also helps to run the Numurkah Under 12 side and is a qualified coach. Matt has said he is more than happy to run some unpaid sessions and help out our other volunteer junior coaches during his time with Torrisholme CC, which is fantastic to hear.

Matt joins in what is a big coup for the club. Matt is super keen to come and get involved at TCC, he said:

“I’m really happy about coming over to England and playing, I’ve been talking about It since I first turned 18 and heard about it the whole playing overseas thing, so I’m absolutely buzzing it’s happening” .

“I hope to bring over some of my knowledge of the game over from Australia and also learn all about what English cricket is like. More importantly try and help to keep Torrisholme up in the Premier Division of the Palace Shield” .

“I’m eager to learn and meet the people in and around the club. From what I have gathered already, it’s a very well run club and can’t wait to get started with you guys. ”

2022 FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

The Palace Shield 1st and 2nd XI fixtures for 2022 are now officially confirmed.

The 2022 season sees our 1st XI (Division 1A Champions in 2021) back in the Palace Shield Premier League for the first time since 2018. They open up with a tough start, in a division which sees four former Northern League sides now in it (Barrow CC, Morecambe CC, Fleetwood CC & Preston CC).

Three of those four clubs being former Northern League Champions in their past. Five time Northern League winners Morecambe CC won as recently as 2015 and Fleetwood CC (also five time NL winners) were Champions just ten years ago in 2012. Two time NL winners Preston CC last won it in 1983 and Barrow CC, although not a former Northern League winner, were runners up in 2010, with a 16 year old Liam Livingstone (Lancashire & England) in their 1st XI then.

We know there will also be strong competition from last years’ Division 1A runners-up Euxton, who were promoted alongside ourselves, plus the sides who did well in the PS Prem in 2021. Barrow CC finished 3rd just 8 points behind promoted Vernon Carus (184 points) and Champions Penrith (194 points). Kirkham & Wesham CC finished 4th, just one point behind Barrow with 175 points and Thornton Cleveleys ended up in 5th with 160 points. All of these will prove tough competition, not forgetting Croston CC who finished 3rd and won the Meyler Cup in 2019.

It really will be a step up for Bryson Little's young side and will again see a friendly local rivalry with near neighbours Morecambe CC. The two sides have many links in their illustrious pasts' which have included players such as; Karl Hansson, Stuart Errington, Jonno Gates and of course the late great Graham 'Chubby' Lee. The two clubs have never met in a 1st XI v 1st XI league fixture before. But have faced each other in the pandemic affected 2020 season, albeit in a rain affected T20 fixture, which Morecambe won by 20 runs. That year also saw TCC 1st XI paired against MCC 2nd XI in the reformatted, shorter season (Level 2 – Group D). TCC winning at Woodhill Lane by 27 runs. That said, the sides have met in local Tower Shield games in the distant past and there have of course been numerous closely fought junior fixtures between the two clubs in the Westmorland League at all age levels. However, it really will be great to see the two clubs finally meet in home and away 45 over fixtures for the first time. The dates to look out for are 4 June at Woodhill Lane and 20 August at Boundary Meadow, we expect there will be good support present for both fixtures.

After last season’s run to the last 32 in the Village Cup (a national knock-out with the final held at Lords) our 1st XI are again entered with Round 1 scheduled for 24 April. The draw takes place in February. More details at: www.nationalvillagecup.com

The Palace Shield T20 programme has expanded in 2022 with Torrisholme promoted into the T20 Division 1 North Group. This is following promotion of the 1st XI to the PS Prem and after winning the T20 Division 2 title last year. There will be 7 fixtures in the group stages between the 30 May and 17 July. The first game is home to local opposition with Carnforth CC set to visit Boundary Meadow (week commencing 30 May) . The last T20 group game sees a third game against Morecambe also at home, this will be arranged during w/c 11 July. Along with Carforth and Morecambe TCC are up against Garstang 2, Great Eccleston, Kirkham & Wesham, Fleetwood and Thornton Cleveleys.

Due to league changes, our 2nd XI have had a relegation reprieve and thankfully remain in Division Two for 2022. The 2nd XI open up with an away game at Penwortham 3rd's on 23 April followed by a home fixture with Whittingham & Goosnargh 1st XI on the 30 April. The last game of the season sees the 2nd's at home to Vernon Carus 2nd's.

The Sunday League fixtures are yet to be finally confirmed, are likely to shift about slightly, however we do still intend to run two sides. A 1st XI in Sunday Division 1 and a 2nd "Development" XI in Sunday Division 2 West. This is again fantastic news for our older juniors (13+) as there will be more opportunities for senior cricket. Our Sunday teams open up on 24 April with the Sun 1st XI at home to Fylde and the Development XI away to St. Annes.

After a fantastic 1st XI season Byson Little's team were finally crowned champions on the 4th September following a hugely successful season down at Boundary Meadow.

The season ranked as one of the clubs all-time best, winning two major honours; the Palace Shield Division 1A title and success in the PS T20 Division 2 cup competition, along with becoming Cumbria & North Lancashire Regional Winners in the National Village Cup competition, before narrowly being knocked out in the National Rounds by Scottish side Meigle CC, in the round of 32. Arguably 2021 was the clubs most successful season ever, with only the 1969 side that won the Meyler Cup and the Fylde Cup (Division 1A) title in the same season that could possibly compete.

RETURN TO CRICKET - STEP 3

Return to cricket - Step 3 (including changes to junior training times)

As things continue to move towards normality from Monday (17th May), coupled with the start of our junior fixtures, we are making you aware of a few changes we are able to make now further restrictions will be lifted...

Spectators: We can now welcome spectators to Boundary Meadow, even without taking hospitality. Spectators are now free to sit and watch the games in front of the clubhouse and around the boundary. Spectators can now also bring their own foldaway chairs to games.

The Bar: The bar can now welcome and serve customers indoors again, with tables indoors limited to groups of 6 or two households. Chairs and tables will be arranged inside the clubhouse to accommodate this, please do not move tables from their set locations.

Changing Rooms: Under ECB guidelines we are now in a position to re-open changing rooms. However the committee feel that due to the lack of opening windows in the changing block we should allow access to the changing rooms for senior fixtures ONLY at present. Senior players should, where possible, limit the amount of players accessing the changing rooms at any one time.

Senior Cricket Teas: Although the ECB guidance now allows teas to be provided, the Palace Shield took the decision that they would not expect clubs to serve teas this season. Therefore all senior players and visiting teams are still expected to provide their own food for the interval.

Junior Training Changes: The committee feels we can’t fully move to the “big junior Friday nights” just yet. However to help accommodate junior fixtures the Under 9 & Under 11 Softball groups, plus the Under 16’s (who don’t play regular senior cricket) will all move from Wednesday night training, to join alongside the Girls Hardball group on a Friday nights. Training time's will remain the same to help the flow of the car park. Under 11 Hardball and Under 13 Hardball will remain training on Monday Nights for the time being.

NEW HOSPITALITY RULES AT BOUNDARY MEADOW

New Hospitality rules at Boundary Meadow
We need to make our supporters, parents and players aware of some changes ahead of the new season which gets underway tomorrow (Saturday 17 April 2021).

We've had some enquiries about whether or not spectators can attend the games at Boundary Meadow. Hopefully, the below will help clarify the situation...

According to the ECB guidance, spectators are not currently permitted at cricket grounds. What is allowed, however, is the use of outdoor hospitality during matches.

Therefore you can come down and watch the cricket providing you are purchasing a drink (hot, cold or alcohol) and are seated at all times in our outside hospitality area. There is to be no walking round the boundary for example. The bar will be open during and after the game on Saturday and Sunday.

Our outside hospitality area is located outside the club house. Please do not move the benches and stay in groups of 6 people or two households. All people using hospitality must also either scan the clubs QR code (Poster can be found on the rear of the 'net cage signpost' and HERE ) or you must sign in for track and trace with a member of the bar team.

Drinks and light snacks can be ordered by table service only and payments can be by card or cash (card preferred). The clubhouse toilets will be available for use by those using the clubs outside hospitality area. Please follow the signposted one-way route to reach them (see map below). Masks must be worn while indoors.

Home and Visiting Players
As per last season players must locate themselves in the designated areas for the 'Home' and 'Away' teams. Players must come dressed in whites and provide their own 'tea'. There will be sanitisation breaks every 6 overs. There will be no access to the changing rooms. However players and officials can use the toilet located in-between the changing rooms.

Finally, as this is all new and different to the rules that were in place last season. Please be patient with us and remember all our coaches and bar staff are volunteers. Hopefully, this will just be for the next few weeks until stage 3 arrives, when hopefully we can get a bit closer to normality.

Following a 1st round bye, the Torrisholme Diamonds have been drawn at home to face Ramsbottom Girls in the second round of Lady Taveners Under 15 T20 Competition this year. This is a National hard ball competition with Lancashire based rounds to begin with. The girls previously entered the Under 13 version of the competition in 2019, beating Lindal Moor in Round 1, but lost out away to Leyland Ladies U13 in Round 2 (The 2020 competition was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid restrictions).

During the 2021 season we will be looking to enter more girls only hard and softball festivals, along with a number of friendlies with other local sides.

Torrisholme CC has a growing number of girls throughout our junior sections from All Stars aged 5-8 years old, through to Under 16. Any girls based in the local area and interested in joining the Torrisholme Diamonds are urged to get in touch . Even if you enjoy playing mixed cricket for another local junior side that is fine. You could still represent the Diamonds in an all-girl fixture, if your club doesn't have an all-girls side. We have one girl involved who does just that. The Diamonds hard ball squad (12-16 year olds) are set to begin training sessions every Friday night from the 16th April, between 6.30pm and 8pm.

Entry for a single team is £10 , but you can enter an additional team for £5 more and this time we have four senior teams involved.

We have today launched our new look website for the 2021 season.

Check out our brand new website for the 2021 season, take a look round and feel free to leave some feedback. It has been designed with mobile and tablet displays in mind, as well as the desktop view.

It is a number of years since our website had a facelift, so this new look has been designed to be more accessible and bring the website up to date for different devices in which people access.

New features include the 'Calendar' which will show all fixtures, junior and senior in one place.

2021 FIXTURES ANNOUNCED

The fixtures have been announced and we are grateful the league has accepted our proposal to promote the Sunday 1st XI side to Division One and our new development side will take up a spot in Division Two North.

This is fantastic news for our older juniors (13+) as there will be more opportunities for senior cricket. This will mean for the first time in the clubs history we will be running four senior sides.

All being well we have a 1st XI Friendly on Sunday 11 April away at Garstang scheduled before the season ‘hopefully’ gets underway on Saturday 17 April. The 1st XI have been grouped with Lancaster 2, Kendal 2 and Netherfield 2 in Division 2 of the T20 competition (starting in June) and the 1st XI have entered the Village Cup, a national knock-out with the final held at Lords! Round 1 is scheduled for 25 April.

Torrisholme CC hears with the greatest sadness of the death of our friend, clubmate and legendary bowler Graham ‘Chubby’ Lee after a long, brave battle against cancer

Of course those who will feel the loss most intensely are his family and we offer our deepest condolences at this very difficult time to his wife Joanne, daughter Tia and to his wider family.

Graham was a fantastic left arm bowler who won the Palace Shield Premier Division Bowling Averages as recently as 2017, after first representing the club in the early eighties as a teenager. He very quickly became a fixture in the First XI and remained there until he departed for a highly successful decade at Morecambe Cricket Club where he played a pivotal role in that club’s Northern Premier League Championship season of 2006. On returning to Torrisholme he was instrumental in securing a place in the Premier Division for the team under Matt Jackson and helping to retain that place for a number of seasons. His unique style of bowling meant that he was rarely collared, even by the top Northern League professionals, offering his captain control on most wickets. On a wicket offering a little assistance he could be virtually unplayable, his height extracting bounce at around medium pace with the ‘keeper standing up. Not a spinner in the classical sense, he would occasionally cut the ball but most of his movement came in the air and off the seam and was allied to great accuracy and a canny understanding of what the batsman was likely to try next.

Chubby, as he was almost universally known in cricket circles, was not afraid to subtly ‘work over’ an umpire to persuade him that the next ball hitting the pads simply had to be LBW. He did not suffer fools gladly but was great company, with a slightly quirky sense of humour and sharp cricket brain. He used these last two assets to great advantage in the late 1980s while running the Under 17 team that developed Karl Hansson, Paul Jackson, Gareth Westworth, Andy Teasdale, Chris and Jonno Gates and Alistair Worth, amongst others, for the club. Though only in his early twenties and without his own car he took the time to coach the team and accompany them to all corners of the Palace Shield, ensuring that they developed into fine club cricketers of the future. He was a very useful bat in his early years, making a number of fifties for the first eleven and captaining the club at a time when many of his Under 17 team had progressed to play alongside him and become lifelong friends.

That Graham had not yet reached his 53rd birthday, or seen his beloved Liverpool FC formally claim their first Premier League Trophy makes his passing all the more poignant. Physically Graham David Lee was a towering presence, and in the history of Torrisholme Cricket Club and league cricket in Lancashire, he will always remain a towering figure.

We will remember his friendship, his achievements and his sense of irony to keep us on our toes. The matter of fact way that he battled with his recent illness was, and should remain, an inspiration to those who knew him.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) - CLUB STATEMENT

We have had enquiries from parents and members regarding our junior and senior winter net sessions currently being held on Sunday evenings.

As there are no immediate plans for general school closures or small gatherings around the country, we are following official government advice and plan continue with our sessions as normal. This will be the case until such time that we are advised otherwise by public health, local or central government authorities.

Hand hygiene is strongly promoted and sharing of protective equipment (especially helmets) should be limited, ideally most older juniors have their own kit. However, if your child intends on using club owned protective kit, we will be promoting hand washing in between kit swaps. You may also like to provide your child with anti-bac wipes or hand gel for this activity.

Obviously if any player, family member or spectator has a new cough, sore throat or temperature then they must not attend on Sunday nights and must follow the public health instructions to self isolate for seven days. For more information see www.nhs.uk/coronavirus
