|
Paul McKevitt - AKA 'Macca' |
| Our illustrious leader is moving into his fourth year as skipper. Following the triumphant campaign last year he will be hoping to continue the momentum and mount a challenge for promotion to the premier division. Macca is an attacking opening batsman that along with many other club members is attempting to ensure that the balsa wood market remains a lucrative one. Macca also offers occasional off spin, of which a bowling spell is preceded by a shout of 'the buffet is open!' or 'run for your lives!' Macca has been with the club for five seasons now having made the move from the Westmorland league via a stint of Club cricket in Australia. |
2.
|
Paul Troughton - AKA 'Trotter' |
| The boy Troughton who has offered so much potential over the years but has yet to fully deliver the goods, he is a hard hitting middle to lower order batsmen with an array of shots that would fool Zorro. A new season offers trotter the added responsibility of vice-captain which it is felt will be the making of him. Paul can offer some hostile sprayed pace bowling but as the description suggests the direction is not all that it could be. Trotter has the added cross to bear that he is not quite the biggest hitter in the club old timers Hansson, Hicks and Cottam are an obstacle he has to overcome. Paul is also a Junior product of TCC. Paul's choice in cricket bats has also been suspect over the years he has recently moved from the balsa wood school and has instead moved into illegal carbon clad wands do not take purchasing advice from this man. |
3.
|
Paul Batty - AKA 'Bats' |
| The old man of the TCC side. He has had more body parts replaced than Frankenstein (others would argue that he also has looks that are not dissimilar to Shelly's masterpiece'. Bats is our elder statesman that is quiet and reserved uses his teaching/diplomatic skills to smooth over otherwise potentially ugly situations (THAT HE HAS STARTED). Paul is deceptively effective middle order batsman who favours the pull shot, even more deceptive is his varied swing bowling that at first has the appearance of an all you can eat buffet, Paul rounds of his all round cricket ability with 'Randall-esque' cover fielding ability (as long as he is diving to his right and unfortunately Derek Randall is also younger) Bats has played his cricket for a number of clubs including playing in the Westmorland and Yorkshire leagues. |
4.
|
Simon Hicks - AKA 'Hicksey' |
| Hicksey has been with the club for a number of years now following his earlier halcyon days as Settles fiery opening bowler whose need for speed also extends to his passion for cars (do not accept a lift from this man!). Simon has taken up the challenge of the 2nd XI captain and almost saw them through to promotion last season, he led from the front with heavy scoring with the bat and numerous wickets with the ball. It is felt that are a good few years left in the old dog and that his first team statistics are not a closed book. |
5.
|
Neil Jordan - AKA 'Jordy' |
| Jordy has been a servant of local cricket for a number of years. Neil has purveyed his talents in the Northern league at both Lancaster and Morecambe CC. This is Neil's second visit to boundary meadow following a season during the mid nineties. Jordy is a deceptively pacey bowler that really hits the deck (Hence the constant re-appearance of his blood soaked toes through his sock) due to his ongoing injury that restricts his current bowling potency Neil is still a cavalier stroke maker that will undoubtedly feature in the 2006 season. |
6.
|
Karl Hansson - AKA 'Coddy' |
| Uncle Cod is another product of the vibrant TCC youth scheme. Now a veteran,Cod is a stylish top order batsman with an array of shots in the locker(usually to cow corner) that emulate the great Devon Malcolm. Cod is looking to amass a deluge of runs this term and aims to be among the leagues leading run scorers come the end of the year. Karl's ability on a cricket field does not end with the bat. Defying his disabilities (1 eye & 1 leg) Cod is an athletic slip fielder who also bowls "Diddly Donk" swing, placing him in the "all round/er" category. Currently enjoying his second coming at the meadow after a glittering spell with Morecambe in the Northern League where he is sadly missed by the bowlers at Chorley, Fleetwood, St Annes etc. |
7.
|
Andy Miller -AKA 'Andy' |
| Andy joined the club in 2010 after starring for Moor Hospital CC for a number of years. He is a useful medium pacer and batsman who will add enormously to the first XI cause. His fielding is electric as you would expect from a useful rugby player, and he is a most welcome addition to the club both on and off the pitch. |
8.
|
John Barry - AKA 'The councillor' |
| John provides us with a prestigious link with high flying scene of local government. John lives his life on the cusp and is rarely unseen in the local press and must constantly be plagued and followed by hordes of paparazzi. The councillor has played at TCC for a number of years now with his solid stone wall like defence, This season could be the writing of a new chapter in the Barry Chronicles with the purchase of a new bat that could see a flood of new strokes enter the repertoire and heaven forbid a few lusty sixes may be struck. The councillor is also a strong gully fieldsman that could often be mistaken for a solid wall as seldom shots directed through that region reach their intended destination. |
9.
|
David Jarvis - AKA 'Jarvo' |
| David has progressed enormously in the last two years, he has always had pace but has added control and variation during two seasons learning from the likes of Matty Jackson and Neil Jordan in the first team. Another outstanding fielder Jarvo rates his batting but has yet to make his mark with the willow in the league. |
10.
|
Steve Hatton - AKA 'Hatstand' |
| Steve Hatstand has been at the club for longer than anybody can remember. It is believed that Steve actually provided the information for the 'Magna Carter' relating to the grounds current location. Hatstand in the twilight of his career has been rejuvenated by the emergence of his offspring who are now beginning to feature in the senior teams. Steve's bowling is deadly by its unpredictability however the uncertainty of direction and pace can also cause problems for his team members as well as the opposition. There is little doubt however that on his day Steve can caress and cleave any opposition bowlers to all parts of the ground. He is also a well respected naval man that should be piped aboard on entry to any building. |
11.
|
John Carter - AKA 'Carts' |
| Carts is TCC's biggest banker as he stands a good 6 inches taller than Hicksey and Hatstand. Carts has served TCC extremely well over the years both on the playing field and also with his captaincy/off field organisation with the 2nd team. Carts along with Hicksey and Hatstand have proved to be a real trio of bankers (that joke is now a little overused). Joking aside they have pulled together an extremely strong 2nd team that are surely hopeful of promotion this year following last years positive performances. Carts in his own right is an aggressive opening batsmen that can offer some effective windmill action medium paced hand grenade throwing. |
12.
|
Wayne Troughton - AKA 'Troughts' |
| Wayne is becoming an increasingly more consistent and valuable performer. He posses ability akin to his younger brothers with regrads to to the early identification of the plane and trajectory of a cricket ball in order to convert the momentum and repropel the ball in an altogether different direction. In other words he has a good eye and can give it a smack. Wayne could provide a few upsets this season. |
13.
|
Paul Woods - AKA 'Woody' |
| Woody is yet another member of the evergreen TCC playing staff however Woody has weathered better than most as he still commands a supreme level of fitness that transfers into his cricket whether he is patrolling the midwicket boundary or scurrying between the wickets. Woody is an aggressive middle order batsmen that is more than capable of giving opposition bowlers a nasty surprise, he is a prime example of the old adage that size isn't everything. Woody as many of the other players is a multi talented sportsman particularly football. It is also expected that the young Woods will be a strong feature in future TCC sides if football doesn't take them of to bigger and better things - watch this space. |
14.
|
Dan Speight - AKA 'Speighty' 'Harry Potter' 'Ivor' |
| Young Speighty burst onto the scene at the end of the 2003 season after displaying he previously uncultivated raw bowling talent that he had as his nickname suggests 'magically kept hidden away'. Dan has recently taken a job working for network rail (this remains a mystery as if you own a magical flying car why would you class cheap rail travel as a tangible benefit). Speighty is a product of the thriving TCC junior section and has been nurtured through the system by Drinks. It is with players such as Dan and Trotter that the future of TCC surely lies. Dan's batting also shows potential and with the departure of Osmotherley Dan can now bring his bat along to games. |
15.
|
Carl Acton - AKA 'Acto' |
| Carl did not take up cricket until his autumn years (which is easily demonstrated through his on field performances) of course this is not true as Carl is highly competent wicket keeper that is one of the most competent number 10/11 (dependent on Matty Jackson's availability) in the league. Carl had a year in the wilderness last year and ended up being a major contributing factor to last years 2nd XI performances. Carl also has the added team benefit of being the team Jester that possess skills & looks not dissimilar to the legendary Peter Kay. |
16.
|
Matty Jackson - AKA 'Aerosol' |
| Tall talented & Athletic, Matty is not (except for tall) but that has never held Matty back. Matty Jackson has been with TCC for a number of years and is finally realising his full potential. Matty 'Aerosol' Jackson is an ever improving left arm opening bowler that took a heavy toll of wickets in the Premier division last year. It is thought that under the right conditions that Matty could well feature in the league averages this year (If his team mates can take the catches). It is also unadvisable to accept a lift from this man as he is from the 'Lee Majors' school of driving, whilst it is impressive to be able to flip cars over it can be a somewhat costly past time. |
17.
|
Francis Stewart - 'AKA Franny' |
| The eldest of the talented Stewart clan Franny broke into the second XI at the age of 14 in 2009. His composed batting and clever wrist spin gained many admirers amongst team mates and opponents. Surely a future 1st teamer with increased experience and strength, maybe to be joined by his brothers in the future. |
18.
|
Mark Cottam - AKA 'Cotty' |
| Cotty along with Coddy and Acto is a product of the locally renowned 'Skerton Finishing School for Fine Young Gentlemen' This fine sporting establishment has excelled itself with Mark, Cotty didn’t feature too much last year due to little white ball commitments and was sadly missed. Mark is the clubs premier slow bowler that could turn a cabbage square on concrete floor. He is also a more than capable batsman that if he is in form has the best eye in the club. Indeed in the clubs recent lean years of the late nineteen nineties Cotty practically carried the club on the playing field. He also produced an innings that ensured our last promotion to the A division. A second coming is predicted for the 2006 season. |
19.
|
Yasin Maje - AKA 'Yaz' |
| Yaz is a welcome edition to the TCC squad for the 2006 season. Yaz's Pedigree is not in question as he is the son of Morecambe and Carnforth legend Gulam Maje. Early evidence has shown that Yaz is not one to stand in his fathers shadow, Yaz has a undoubted well rounded cricketing talent, wristy left handed stroke maker, wicket keeper and a fielder of electric pace. It is expected that due to the lack of pace/mobility and talent in the TCC 1st XI out fielding that could spell a considerable amount of fielding work on the horizon. |
20.
|
Mark Drinkall - AKA 'Drinks' |
| TCC's very own 'MR CRICKET' It is unmeasurable what Drinks has done for the club over the years. Along with Steve Hatton it is belived that they first heard the news of the unfortunate sinking of the titanic down at the club whilst listening to the wireless. In more recent years it was belived that Drinks attempted to unsuccessfully arrange a celebration of VE day down at the club, but it was felt that a quiz did truly reflect the level of excitment and paramoncy of the situation. Enoughh of drinks historical background and on to his playing prowess, Drinks has many highlights in a long illustrious career with both bat and ball. Drinks who is a heavily qualified coach fortunately has adopted a do as i say vs do as i do attitude. Drinks has number of fetch shots which can propell the ball anywhere in an arch from backward square to mid off this combined with ferocious driving and square cutting means that drinks is an effective run getter for both teams down the years. Mark posses a a huge amount of knowledge and technical abilitry particularily in the spin bowling department unfortunately he as problems transferring this to the field of play. Drinks is undoubtly TCC's premier buffet bowler rivalled by none. |
21.
|
Grahame Clarke (aka Clarky) |
| Northern league legend, batsman of awesome power and (very) occasional leg spinner, Grahame joined the club in the middle of the 2007 season and thoroughly enjoyed his first season of Palace Shield cricket. Having been involved in the junior section for a number of years he will be hoping to see son Daniel, a promising batsman in a similar mould to his Dad, develop into the senior teams in future. Still one of the best and most respected players in the region he is expecting to compile a mountain of runs and play a major part in the future success of the club. |
22.
|
Andy Butler (aka Butsy, Verender) |
| After two seasons at Warton popular batsman and off spinner Butsy makes a welcome return to the Torrisholme ranks, his youthful appearance and cheerful demeanor conceal a thoughtful and talented player with the potential to take attacks apart. Professional sparky and pool maestro Butsy will be hoping to electrify the league with his strokeplay. |
23.
|
Jordan Acton - AKA 'Rowdy' |
| Jordan has bucked the trend set by dad Carl and has become an outstanding stumper. A quiet lad, he has yet not taken on the mantle of team joker but is working on being able to laugh himself unconscious. His batting needs to improve for him to move forward but the ability is there, however his keeping in 2009 was not bettered by any opposing gloveman and at 17 he has plenty of time to mature. |
24.
|
Andy Stevens - AKA 'Stevo' |
| Unfortunately (for the club) Andy is an outstanding scholar as well as a pacy right arm bowler who can make useful runs. This means that he plies his trade for LRGS until July. He showed himself to be an outstanding young bowler in the second half of 2009 and did an brilliant job leading the Under 16s to second place in the league. It is to be hoped that the popular Stevo will continue his progress for the club and become a fixture in future senior squads. |
25.
|
Matthew Alderson AKA 'Harmy', 'Alders' |
| Alders is still a relative newcomer to the beautiful game after only picking up the leather and willow in 2004, however Matthew is privileged to have shared the same Woodrush cricket roots as messers Speight and Hatton. Unlike the aforementioned though, Alders' batting talents are more 'Blunkett' than 'Botham'. Alders nevertheless justifies selection with some lively medium pace and given the conditions and the new palace shield ball, can be almost unplayable. He also practices some non-textbook fielding techniques that work suprisingly well and are gaining him a reputation as an excellent boundary catcher. |
26.
|
Adam Bee - AKA 'Buzz' |
| Adam joined the club four seasons ago as a twelve year old, despite the fact that he could pass for a twenty year old! A muscular and aggressive fast bowler who is also on apprentice forms as a football goalkeeper Adam can also bat and will surely develop into a top first team alrounder. |
27.
|
Neil Troughton -AKA 'Peewee' (but only if you are brave) |
| An underestimated player with both bat and ball Neil has been a leading light of the midweek and friendly teams in recent years but his commitment to practicing has developed his game hugely. He is also a great club man, being a leading light on the bar committee, an enthusiastic volunteer with the juniors and a vocal and active committee man. |
28.
|
Chris Nolan (aka Chrissy, Himmler) |
| Chris returned to the club in the 2007 season after many years playing for Bare, a left arm spinner and aggressive bat Chris hopes to play a major role in a second XI promotion push in 2008. Memorably referred to by an absent minded groundsman as ‘ the bloke with the Himmler glasses’ Chris will be focussing on making runs and taking wickets as well as adding valuable experience to the second XI. |
29.
|
Simon Wilson - AKA 'Si' |
| Simon joined the club from Morecambe in 2009 and outstanding bowling for the Under 16s brought about rapid promotion to the second XI. After learning to temper his pace and swing the ball on damp pitches he bowled outstandingly and was the team's second highest wicket taker. A brilliant fielder in the outfield with safe hands and a powerful throw, Simon hopes to develop his 'aggressive batting' (slogging) to contribute more runs in future. |
30.
|
Jack Andrae - AKA 'Buckets' |
| The man formerly known as Jack Hunt with a nickname which might be seen as a hostage to fortune but ‘Buckets’ has a great pair of hands in the outfield and is rarely seen to put a catch down in games or practice. Another junior product Jack’s progress in the last 18 months has been enormous with steady performances in the second XI last season and an impressive first team display in the cup. Jack’s awkward bowling from a high action and explosive batting talent make him a potential match winning all-rounder, he will be keen to make potential reality in 2010. |
31.
|
Alex Dow - AKA 'Dowy' |
| Coming through the ranks with good mate Jack Hunt, Alex has every shot in the book and some of his own to boot. After a mighty impressive start to 2009 in the 1st XI Alex’s performances were inconsistent and he will be striving for more consistency when he returns from Uni in the Summer. An outstanding fielder with a cannon arm and more than useful medium pacer, Alex has the potential to become a dominant batsman for many years. |
32.
|
John Lee - AKA 'Catwalk' |
| John acquired his nickname as much for his poise and elegance at the crease as for his undoubted ability as a ladykiller, another player with masses of talent with the bat who is keen to match potential with runs in up coming seasons. He is a more than capable keeper, bowls right arm aerosol and is a brilliant fielder in any position. John is another of the first generation of products of John Ball’s junior section whose newfound responsibilities as co-captain of the Sunday XI are surely a step on the road to first XI stardom. |
